Ambalaż Café is a place where coffee meets culture and the view of Kraków takes your breath away. We are a café and bistro on the 4th floor of Cricoteka — the Centre for the Documentation of the Art of Tadeusz Kantor in Podgórze, right on the banks of the Vistula river.
Why "Ambalaż"?
The name is a tribute to the work of Tadeusz Kantor — one of the most important Polish artists of the 20th century. "Ambalaż" (from French emballage — wrapping) is an artistic technique of wrapping objects, giving them new meaning. Kantor used emballage as a metaphor — things hidden beneath the wrapping hold a secret, a value, an emotion. In the same way, beneath our modern interior and panoramic views lies a passion for coffee, food and culture.
The Cricoteka building itself is a work of art — the architectural design references Kantor's drawing "Man with a Table". The building's form is meant to resemble a table and evoke the concept of emballage.
Our philosophy
We believe that coffee is a ritual, not a rush. That is why we serve breakfast all day — from 10:00 to 19:00. There is no need to hurry. Sit down, order a specialty coffee, gaze at the Vistula and Kazimierz through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Talk. Read. Work.
From 2 pm we invite you to enjoy lunch dishes — pierogi, pasta, gnocchi — because coffee and food make the perfect pairing after visiting Cricoteka or a stroll along the Vistula.
A view like no other
From the 4th floor you can take in one of the most beautiful panoramas of Kraków. You can see the Vistula river, the Bernatka Footbridge, the rooftops of Kazimierz and, further beyond, the Old Town. The vast floor-to-ceiling glazing means the view accompanies you throughout your visit. Many of our guests say this is the best café with a view in Kraków.
